Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and the Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC) have initiated discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration on integrated water and road infrastructure development across Lagos State.
The engagement took place Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the management of the LSWC to Julius Berger’s Regional Office in Ijora, Lagos. Representatives of both organisations explored opportunities to enhance coordination between water and road infrastructure planning, with a focus on developing a more resilient, sustainable, and efficient infrastructure network for the state.
Julius Berger’s Regional Commercial Manager, Alexander Bauer, in his welcome speech, underscored the importance of fostering strong relationships between neighbouring institutions. He noted that closer cooperation between the two organisations could create opportunities for technical support and infrastructure collaboration whenever required.
We believe in knowing our neighbours and working together where our interests align. Julius Berger remains committed to supporting sustainable infrastructure development, and we are always open to engaging with stakeholders such as the Lagos State Water Corporation whenever technical support or collaboration is required, Bauer said.
He noted that Lagos State and the Federal Ministry of Works remain among Julius Berger’s major infrastructure clients, making effective coordination with key public institutions essential for successful project delivery, even as he reaffirmed the company’s commitment to long-term engineering solutions.
“Our focus has always been on sustainable engineering rather than temporary fixes. Early engagement and proper coordination before projects commence are critical to avoiding disruptions and ensuring long-term value for the communities we serve”, he added.
Drawing attention to the importance of mutual engagement, Bauer encouraged the Water Corporation to leverage Julius Berger’s expertise for infrastructure-related projects. He emphasized that Lagos State and the Federal Ministry of Works remain key clients of the construction giant, making collaboration crucial to the delivery of major public infrastructure projects.
Leader of the LSWC delegation and the Corporation’s Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, described the visit as a relationship-building initiative intended to establish stronger ties between both organisations.
We are neighbours who have operated within the same environment for years, yet we have had limited interaction. This visit is an opportunity to change that and create a platform for closer collaboration moving forward, Tijani said.
According to him, stronger cooperation would enable both organisations to better coordinate infrastructure projects, particularly where road construction and water distribution assets intersect.
Tijani described the visit as both a familiarisation exercise and a neighbourly initiative designed to build a stronger relationship between the organisations. According to him, the meeting would create a platform for future engagements and facilitate better coordination, particularly in areas involving water infrastructure and construction activities.
He explained that one of the key objectives of the engagement was to improve communication regarding ongoing and future construction projects. Such coordination, he said, would help identify and protect critical water pipelines during road and infrastructure works, especially within Lagos Island and surrounding areas where water infrastructure plays a vital role in service delivery.
The LSWC Managing Director stated that the visit was prompted by ongoing activities within the water sector and the need to establish a closer working relationship with Julius Berger. He added that the engagement was intended to deepen institutional understanding, strengthen professional relationships, and lay the ground work for long-term collaboration.
Tijani also stressed the importance of maintaining cordial relationships with neighbouring organisations and key stakeholders, noting that strategic partnerships established today could open doors to broader opportunities for cooperation in the future.
Throughout the meeting, both organisations explored potential areas of collaboration, including road construction, protection of water pipelines, water infrastructure development, sustainable water supply systems, and integrated infrastructure planning across Lagos Island and other parts of the state.
Discussions also focused on project delivery, technical expertise, and the role of sustained collaboration among stakeholders in supporting Lagos State’s broader development agenda.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing a shared commitment to strengthening communication channels, enhancing technical coordination, and identifying new opportunities for collaboration on critical infrastructure initiatives.
