Jeff Bezos was briefly the world richest man with $90.06bn

Jeff Bezos, the chief executive officer of Amazon was briefly the world richest man on Thursday.

The Amazon boss net worth, according to Forbes, was estimated at $90.6 billion as at Thursday morning when he gained $1.4 billion in the stock market.

Bezos had a net worth of over $89 billion as of the close of markets Thursday, while Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates had a net worth of just over $90 billion.

Even if Bezos didn’t end the day as the richest man, he will likely take the crown from Gates more permanently in the coming days and weeks.

When he hits the mark, Bezos, who started selling books from his garage 22 years ago, becomes the first man to bump Gates from his perch in seven years and is only the sixth man to hold the “richest person” title in the past 30 years, according to Forbes.

His new net worth makes him $500 million richer than Gates.

Bezos is the seventh person to hold the title of the world’s richest person.

He was ranked third richest in the world on Forbes 2017 list of the world’s billionaires.

At the time, he had a fortune of $72.8 billion.

Bezos was only able to dethrone Gates as a result of the philanthropic efforts of the Microsoft founder.

Gates had reportedly given $31.1 billion to charity as at the end of 2016.

The last person to surpass Gates on Forbes’ world’s richest ranking was Spanish retail giant Amancio Ortega.
