Why the Bill on the devolution of power to states failed – Saraki

Senate President Dr. Olusola Saraki on Saturday said the bill on the devolution of Power failed on the floor of Senate during the constitution amendment debate earlier in the week because of mistrust and misunderstanding among members.

“If this constitution amendment had come may be eight months ago, devolution of power would have passed easily. We must be honest with ourselves, there is a lot of mistrust in the country at the moment…”, he said.

Saraki, however, said that the issue can be revisited if represented again on the floor of the senate, stating that dialogue and understanding will ensure that the bill will be passed when the Senate resume from recess.

The Senate President made the remark when members of the #NotTooYoungToRun group led by their Kwara State coordinator Olasupo Abideen paid him a visit at his home in Ilorin Kwara State.

Saraki, who expressed delight at the passage of the not too young to govern run bill for determination and doggedness in ensuring that the saw the light of the day, stating the youths must be given the chance to channel their energy and efforts towards the development of the country.
