A year-old baby, 7 others abducted by Bandits in Taraba

By our reporter| Armed men believed to be bandits on Monday abducted seven people and an infant in Taraba.

The gunmen, numbering about 10, mounted a roadblock near Chanchangi town, located along Takum-Wukari road, and forced a commercial van conveying 10 passengers from Takum to Wukari town into the forest.

Maiwada Takum, relative to one of the abducted travellers, told Daily Trust that the bandits took seven people hostage.

They also took a one-year-old boy from his mother, who was a passenjer on the bus.

According to him, the van, a Sharon, was later found in a part of the Benue forest that shares boundary with Chanchangi town.

Maiwada said the kidnappers have not called relatives of the abducted passengers, but the mother of the infant, he said is traumatised and is hospitalised at a clinic in Takum

According to Maiwada, this is the second time in three months that abducted large number of persons from Takum town traveling along Takum-Wukari road and almost at the same spot.

The Taraba state police command has not confirmed the incident as at the time of filing this report.
