Senator Ademola Adeleke, the lawmaker representing Osun West district in the National Assembly, on Saturday night emerged winner of the governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Senator Adeleke will face Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as candidates of other political parties in the September 22 governorship election.

The Senator known for his unique dancing steps defeated Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Fatai Akinbade, and Nathaniel Oke to emerge the winner of the primary.

Adeleke polled a total of 1,569 votes to beat his closest rival Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi who scored 1,562 votes.

About 3,000 delegates from various wards across the local government areas of the state participated in the exercise.

The Chairman of the Election Committee and Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, declared the lawmaker the winner on Saturday after the exercise held in Osogbo, the state capital.

Delegates at the primary, however, demanded a recount of the ballot papers but Governor Dickson declined the request.

Senator Ademola Adeleke emerged on the country’s political scene following the death of his brother, Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

After being denied the chance to occupy the seat vacated by his brother by the ruling APC, he decamped to the opposition PDP and easily won the by-election for the seat vacated by his elder brother.
