A federal high court presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu in Abuja on Monday granted a 200 million naira bail to Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA).

The sureties, the Judge ruled must not be lower than grade 16 in the civil service and where they are private citizens, they must have landed properties in the federal capital territory.

The former NSA was has been in detention since 2015.

In her ruling, Justice Okeke said Dasuki’s continuous detention is aberration to the rule of law, stating the federal government’s contention that Dasuki was being kept in custody on the grounds of his alleged threat to national security and his alleged ongoing investigation for money laundering did not warrant “abrogating” his right.

She, however, rejected Dasuki’s prayer for N5 billion damages.

Okeke also ruled that should there be any further reason to interrogate him, DSS could only invite and interview him between the hours of 9 am and 6pm on working days.

This will be the sixth time the former NSA has been granted bail by the court but the government has disobeyed all of them.
