Akeredolu: To retain power in 2023, APC must give presidential ticket to south

By our reporter| To retain power in the 2023 general election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) should give its presidential ticket to the south, Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu said on Thursday.

The Ondo state governor, and chairman of the Southern governor’s forum who made the comment in a Facebook post, said he and his colleagues at the Southern Nigeria Governors’ Forum believe that power should be zoned to the south.

“APC must work to retain power. We must rotate power to retain power. Rotate to the south. Shikena (finish),” Akeredolu said.

The special convention of the ruling APC to chose its presidential flagbearer is scheduled to hold in Abuja on June 6.

The Ondo governor was on Thursday named as chairman of security and compliance for the convention.

There has speculation that the APC may pick a northern presidential candidate to checkmate the emergence of Atiku Abubakar who last weekend emerged as the flagbearer of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
