Yusuf Bello| The emir of Rano, one of the newly created emirates in Kano, Tafida Abubakar Ila, is dead.
The royal father died on Saturday, a day after he was admitted to the hospital over an unknown ailment.
According to his media aide, Fatihu Bichi, Abubakar fell ill on Friday and was taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital but was referred to Nassarawa Specialist Hospital due to lack of oxygen.
The emir’s death is coming at a time when the state is battling unusual deaths that has claimed the lives of many prominent individuals and more than 600 others according to Sabitu Shuaibu, deputy coordinator of the task force on COVID-19.
The unsual number of deaths has made many residents uncomfortable and the state government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control are currently investigating the deaths.
President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in the week ordered a two week total lockdown of the state to enable health workers put a handle on the crisis.
