President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the name of Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Tanko Muhammed as substantive CJN to the Senate for confirmation.
Buhari urged the Senate to accord the confirmation of Justice Muhammed a speedy consideration.
The President’s letter read in part, “I have the honour to forward the nomination of honourable Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed for confirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria.
“It is my hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious cooperation of the distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The President also transmitted a letter asking the Senate to approve the appointment 15 senior special advisers.
Senate president Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letter nominating Tanko on the floor of the Senate on Thursday.
The National Judicial Council (NJC) on Wednesday recommended Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad to Buhari for confirmation as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
