A 60-year-old man, Mr Godwin Anukwa was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, for allegedly assaulting his daughter, 8, by inserting his finger into her private part.
Anukwa, of no fixed address, was arraigned on a lone count of child defilement.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Peter Nwangwu, the defendant committed the offence in March at Airport Estate, Isheri, Lagos.
The defendant, according to him, was arrested by the police after the case was reported.
Anuka pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in the like sum.
She ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
She said one of them must, in addition, be related to the defendant.
The case was adjourned until July 17.
