Army says it has arrested fake INEC staff working for Gov Wike

The Nigerian army on Tuesday said it has arrested at least eight suspects who allegedly disrupted the 2019 presidential election in Rivers state.

Parading the suspects before newsmen at the 6 division of the Nigerian army, Port Harcourt, Sagir Musa, army spokesman, said the suspects confessed to be working for Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state.

He said they had posed as staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and tampered with electoral materials.

He also said the army has on record phone conversations between the suspects and the governor.

They were subsequently taken out to where the army said a “car of Rivers state of government which they used” in their operation was parked.
