The game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes with a superb Aubameyang strike for Arsenal in the 12th minute of play while Minamino equalised for Liverpool with composed low finish late in the second half, the First Liverpool goal for Japan international.
In the ensuring penalty shoot out, Arsenal converted five of their kicks while youngstar Rhian Brewster, was the only player to miss in the shootout as he blasted his kick against the bar.

Arsenal have won the Community Shield for a 16th time (including shared titles), overtaking opponents Liverpool (15 times) and only behind Manchester United (21).

Only Kevin De Bruyne (22) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (15) have provided more assists for Premier League sides in all competitions since the start of last season than Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (13).
