Atiku’s lawyer re-arraigned by EFCC

Ebun Francis| The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) on Friday re-arraigned Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie, a lawyer to former Vice-President, over alleged money laundering.

Osagie was arrested on August 8, 2019, and arraigned alongside Erhunse Giwa-Osagie, his younger brother, on three counts of money laundering before a federal high court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

Following the transfer of the case file from Oweibo in October 2019, the suspects were re-arraigned before Chuka Obiozor.

But on Friday, March 6, 2019, the case was again reassigned to another judge in the same court, Chukwujekwu Aneke.

The two brothers are being accused by the anti-graft agency of making a cash payment of $2 million without going through a financial institution in the buildup to the 2019 general election.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges and were allowed to benefit from the bail granted them earlier by Justice Oweibo following an application by Ahmed Raji, their lawyer.
