Ayade decamps to APC asks more governors to dump PDP

Chidi Samuel| Cross Rivers State Governor Ben Ayade on Thursday dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Ayade who announced his decision on Thursday morning after a closed-door meeting with six APC governors and some members of the National Assembly who visited him at the Government House, Calabar, also urged the remaining PDP governors to join him in the ruling APC.

The governors who visited Ayade include Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State; Hope Uzodinma of Imo State; Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State; Simon Lalong of Plateau State; Mohammed Abubakar of Jigawa State, and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

Shortly after decamping from the main opposition party, Ayade told reporters that with his defection, he is now the leader of APC in Cross River State, and all the party structures are under his control.

According to the governor, there is dire need for him and other governors to work closely with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We need to join hands with President Buhari in his determination to enhance the fortunes of the county, he said.

“I need all governors to similarly join me and understand my decision to join the APC. We need to work ahead with the president for the future and unity of Nigeria. We all need to sit on the same dining table with Mr. President to save Nigeria.

“It is my responsibility to bring back Cross River to the centre in order to enhance her fortunes. I therefore formally declare myself as member and leader of APC in Cross River State.”
