Bandits kill over 20 in Katsina community despite recent peace deal

More than twenty people are feared dead following a fresh attack on Doma “A” community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State’s Southern Senatorial District.

The Chairman of Faskari Local Government Council, Bala Ado, who confirmed the incident to reporters, stated that several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. At the same time, more than 100 residents have been displaced.

According to him, the attack lasted for nearly three hours, from about noon to 3 p.m. local time on Tuesday.

He added that burial arrangements for the victims are expected to take place on Wednesday.

Faskari Local Government Area is one of the frontline communities that had earlier entered into a communal peace agreement with armed bandits.

The attack shattered the fragile peace agreement that allowed farmers to return home safely after the state swapped over 1000 captives for 70 reportedly repentant bandits.

Officials confirmed that the toll from the attack varies from 13 to over 20 with the joint forces now investigating as Faskari remains a banditry hotspot fuelling displacement and food shortages.
