Boko Haram attacks passengers in Borno, 10 killed

Yusuf Bello| Boko Haram insurgents on Sunday night killed 10 stranded passengers at Auno, a village near Maiduguri, Borno state.

The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi, who confirmed the incident while speaking with newsmen on Monday, said the passengers were forced to pass the night at Auno village, 24 kilometers away from Maiduguri, following their inability to meet up with the 5 pm curfew imposed by the Army for travelers.

Unconfirmed eyewitnesses account, however, put the number of people killed at, at least 20 with no fewer than 18 cars, including heavy-duty trucks, set ablaze by the insurgents.

An unspecified number of people mostly women are also believed to have been abducted.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, accompanied by the Garrison Commander 7 Division, Nigerian Army, who visited the scene of the incident,
assured the people of his commitment and that of the Federal Government to end the insurgency.
