Boko Haram insurgents kill eight soldiers in Yobe

Eight soldiers were reportedly killed on Tuesday morning by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Sassawa village in Damaturu local government area of Yobe state, according to a report in Daily Trust.

According to the publication, the insurgents came into the village early Tuesday morning in five Hilux trucks, engaged soldiers and broke into shops looking for food items.

“The boys (Boko Haram) had a field day. After the attack, they forced many shops and stores open and carted food items away,” he said.

Kayode Ogunsanya, spokesman of 3 division military base in Damaturu, said there was casualty on both sides but he could not ascertain the number.

“There was casualty on both sides but I cannot ascertain the number. Men on ground had repelled the attack,” Ogunsanya said.

The attack is the fourth on the town and the military formation in the area since the establishment of the base in Sassawa.

Sassawa is 37 kilometres away from Damaturu, Yobe state capital.
