France has chosen Emmanuel Macron as next president over Marine Le Pen, the candidate of far -right National Front, according to projections from different independent poll agencies.
Macron, 39, is head of centrist party En Marche and a new entrant to French politics.
Turnout for this year’s election is down on previous years – 65.3% as over 25% of voters are thought to have abstained.
Marine Le Pen has already called Emmanuel Macron to congratulate him.
