President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday took a swipe on former president Olusegun Obasanjo, as he told traditional rulers in Ondo state  that he is only seeking a second term in office and not a third term as did “some people.”

Speaking with Ondo State Council of Obas in Akure, he said, “We have just finished one term and are seeking a second one. After that, the constitution doesn’t permit any more.”

He added, “There are some who tried looking for more but they did not succeed. We should learn from their mistakes.”

His statement was revealed by Tolu Ogunlesi, who oversees digital communications in the presidency on his verified Twitter handle @toluogunlesi.

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo is opposed to the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari and has severally attacked Buhari’s government as incompetent and nepotic.

He recently in a strongly worded letter compared the situation in today’s Nigeria under Buhari to the events that took place in the dark days of the late dictator, Sani Abacha.
