Buhari, national assembly leadership in closed door meeting

Chidi Samuel || President Buhari on Thursday night held a closed-door meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly inside the Presidential Villa.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara lead the team from the national assembly with deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and minority leader, Godswill Akpabio noticeably absent.

There has been no information yet about what the meeting is about but sources familiar with the meeting said it was called at the instance of the national assembly leaders.

The meeting also comes two days after the President declined to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill passed by the National Assembly into law.

The non-passage of the 2018 appropriation bill by the national assembly was said to be one of the top items scheduled for discussion at the meeting.

Those who attended the meeting include the Senate President Bukola Saraki, Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives, and Ahmad Lawan, Senate leader.

Others are Mustapha Boss, secretary to the government of the federation, and Abba Kyari, chief of staff to the president, Ita Enang, and Kawu Sumaila, the two senior special assistants to the president on national assembly matters.
