By our reporter| The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday said it is monitoring 8,881 “passengers of interest” in relation to COVID-19.
In its situation report dated April 5, 2020, the 37th in the series since the confirmation of the index coronavirus case on the 27th of February, 2020, the health agency said they are working with affected states to identify contacts of the new confirmed cases.
The report read, “The National EOC is working with affected State EOCs to identify contacts of the new confirmed cases. A cumulative total of 8881 passengers of interest (POI) identified and being monitored.”
According to the report, the data is “as at 12 midnight on 05/04/2020”, and takes into account the eight new cases announced on Sunday night.
The report also noted that of the 232 confirmed cases captured, “101 (44%) have travel history to high risk countries, 35 (15%) are contacts of known confirmed cases and 96 (41%) of cases have incomplete epidemiological information. 70% are males, 27% are female, 3% have incomplete epidemiological information. Age group most affected are 31-50 (39%).”
Nigeria currently has 232 confirmed cases of the highly contagious Covid-19 which has infected over one million people globally and killed thousands since it first broke in Wuhen, China in late December, 2019.
Meanwhile, Nigeria on Tuesday confirmed six new cases of the highly contagious Covid-19 bringing to 238, the total number of infections in the country.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control who made the confirmation via its Twitter handle, said that two cases was reported in Kwara and Edo while Rivers, Edo and FCT reported one case each.
The tweet read, ”Six new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria: 2 in Kwara, 2 in Edo, 1 in Rivers and 1 in the FCT.”
”As at 09:30 pm 6th April, there are 238 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Thirty-five have been discharged with five deaths”.
