Court restrains labour from going ahead with planned strike

By our reporter| The National Industrial Court in Abuja on Thursday restrained the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and their affiliates from embarking on a proposed strike on Monday, September 28.

Presiding Judge, Ibrahim Galadima who ordered the parties to appear in court on October 12 for the determination of the motion on notice filed in the court, also restrained the unions and their affiliates from disrupting or stopping Nigerians from performing their legitimate duties on the 28th of September.

The judge equally issued an order compelling the Inspector General of Police, and the Director General of the Department of State Sevices (DSS) to provide protection for workers engaged in their legitimate duties from any form of harassment by the unions over the planned strike.

Thursdy’s order followed an ex parte application by the Incorporated Trustees of Peace and Unity Ambassadors Assocoliation brought by their counsel, Sunusi Musa Esq over the unions’ plans to protest against federal government’s increases in electricity tariffs and pump price of petroleum products.
