Customs intercepts $8m loaded in a car at Lagos airport

Chidi Samuel| The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday announced the seizure of the sum of $8,065,615 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos by its men.

Comptroller general of Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, who made the disclosure at a press conference, said the cash, stashed inside a car, was intercepted when it was about to be loaded into an aircraft.

According to Ali, the money was wrapped in large brown envelopes, and that the driver of the vehicle who works with the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) at the airport is currently under arrest.

He also assured the Nigerian public that the identities of the owners of the money would be revealed.

Ali said, “From the day we seized this money, no bank has come to claim ownership. But our investigation will reveal the mystery behind the owners.”
