DSS says outcome of investigation on Mamu, Kaduna train negotiator, mind-boggling

By our reporter| The Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday described the outcome of its investigation on Tukur Mamu, the lead negotiator for the Kaduna train victims as “mind-boggling”.

Mamu, an aide of Islamic cleric, Sheik Gumi was arrested in Cairo, Egypt last week by INTERPOL at the request of the Nigerian government and was taken into custody by the DSS on arrival at the Kano international airport.

Following a search at his residence and office, the DSS said military equipment, huge sums of money in different currencies, and other incriminating materials were discovered.

But commenting on his arrest, Gumi described Mamu’s detention as an act of terrorism, stating that the DSS should either charge him to court or release him.

In apparent response to the cleric in a statement on Sunday, Peter Afunaya, DSS spokesperson, said the security agency would not be distracted by “skewed utterances”, and urged the public to wait for the commencement of court proceedings.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) has followed, with keen observation, overzealous comments by sections of the public in view of issues relating to the arrest and investigation of Tukur Mamu,” he said.

“The service wishes that it is not distracted with some of the skewed narratives pervading the media space.

“Instead, it requests to be left alone to concentrate on the ongoing investigations, the outcomes of which have remained mind-boggling.

“Meanwhile, the service will cease further comments on the subject matter since the court will determine its course.
