#EndSars protesters again block Lagos-Ibadan express

Ebun Francis| For the third time this week, the #EndSars protesters on Friday blocked the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to continue their weeklong demonstration against the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The protesters who blocked the Magboro section of the express around Punch Newspapers head office, causing a heavy gridlock as they chanted solidarity songs with placards with different inscriptions.

One of the protesters told reporters that the time has come for youths to take over the country.

He said, “We are all here on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway because there is a nationwide protest for the soul of our country.

“#EndSARS, #Endpolicebrutality, end bad governance, and wickedness to the Nigerian youths. It is time for the youths to take over.”

Nigeria has for more than one week witnessed a nationwide protests by youths against the now disbanded notorious anti-robbery police squad SARS.

The protesting youths called for disbanding of the squad, accusing it corruption, high-handedness and harassment.

They also made five demands include release of all persons arrested by the disbanded police unit and justice for victims of police brutality; setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct (within 10 days); psychological evaluation of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be redeployed, and increase police salary so that they can be adequately compensated for protecting lives and property of citizens.

The special anti-roberry has since been disbanded and their five point demand met by the federal government.
