Fayose in narrow escape as G-Class wagon is razed by fire in Lagos

Ebun Francis || Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose’s white Mercedes Benz G-Wagon caught fire in Lagos on Wednesday while in motion.

The accident happened around 1.30pm on the Oshodi bridge, along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway inward Airport Road, not too far from the LASTMA’s headquarters.

The exact cause of the fire is not yet known but eyewitnesses at the scene confirmed that the governor was in the G-Class when the accident happened and he quickly escaped into another car in his convoy.

Fayose’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, revealed that the SUV, said to be worth N44m caught fire while being driven to the airport on Tuesday.

He, however, claimed that Fayose was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Olayinka’s statement is published below.

“There was an accident involving Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose’s vehicle on his way to the airport yesterday.

“Though he was meant to be in the vehicle, by providence, he was not there.

“What caused the sudden fire under the vehicle is yet to be ascertained.

‘The governor is grateful to God that no casualty was recorded. He also thanked the people who made spirited efforts to put out the fire”.
