FG meets NLC on petrol subsidy removal

Our reporter/ A federal government delegation will meet with representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Sunday over the removal of subsidy on petrol.

Sunday’s meeting comes five days after a first meeting with the new government on the same issue, ended in a deadlock.

President Bola Tinubu had during his inauguration speech on May 29th announced the withdrawal of petrol subsidy payments.

The president’s pronouncement led to hike in the pump price of the product across the country.

The leadership of the NLC and TUC had after the meeting with government representatives asked demanded that government must return to the old price of petrol or workers will embark on a nationwide strike billed to commence next Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) had in a memo dated June 2, and signed by its general secretary, Dominic Igwebike, also announced that its members will join the strike.
