Giedam, Yobe home town of IGP attacked by Boko Haram

Yusuf Bello| Boko Haram insurgents on Friday attacked the town of Geidam in Yobe.

The terrorists attacked the heart of the town, burning shops and shooting indiscriminately in a gun battle with troops

According to an eyewitness account, the insurgents who arrived in eight vehicles and carrying weapons invaded the town around 6pm and laid siege on some parts of the town.

“Their motorcade moved straight to the location of Kafela primary school as they started sporadic shooting, a resident who spoke to a national publication said on Friday night.

“We are currently indoors praying for our safety, that’s all I can say for now”

Yobe state police command spokesman who confirmed the attack, disclosed that an air force fighter is already in Geidam providing reinforcement against the attackers causing destruction inside the town.

Details of casualties from the attack remain sketchy as at the time of filing the report.

Geidam, the home town of the newly appointed Acting Inspector General of Police was attacked by the insurgents in February with three Customs officers.
