By our reporter| A closed-circuit television installed by the mother of the minor alleged molested by Popular Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, made his arrested possible.
Omiyinka was arrested on Thursday by men of the Lagos State Police Command.
According to a source at the police, the victim’s mother, who had been suspecting that her daughter was being sexually abused, installed the CCTV to uncover the perpetrator.
She is said to have monitored the situation in her home on her phone and surprisingly saw Omiyinka allegedly conducting himself in a suspicious manner around her daughter.
Omayinka eventually took the victim to the kitchen, where there was no CCTV camera installed, but was caught by the minor’s mother who rushed back home upon on watching developments at her home on her phone.
Lagos State police command spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, who in a statement yesterday confirmed the arrest of the Nollywood actor, said preliminary investigation revealed that he had been sexually assaulting the 14-year-old victim since she was seven.
According to him, Omiyinka confessed to the crime.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a popular Nollywood actor, Olarenwaju James (Omiyinka), aka Baba Ijesha, 48, for defiling a minor
“The case of defilement was reported on April 19, 2021, by one Princess Adekola Adekanya at the Sabo Police Station and was transferred to the Gender Unit of the SCIID, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation.
“Based on preliminary findings, the suspect started sexually assaulting the victim, 14, since she was seven-year-old. The suspect confessed to the crime and was also captured by a CCTV camera in the house of the victim’s mother.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered proper investigation as he promised to do justice in the matter,” Adejobi said.
