Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has said he is under pressure to run for president in 2019 presidential election.
The former speaker of the house of representatives made the disclosure on Wednesday while addressing associations of students, youths and resident communities who paid him a solidarity visit.
Tambuwal said, “I have been receiving advice and encouragement from our leaders, peoples across the country and even from abroad to contest for the presidency and this pressure has been mounting.”
“It is not my making but the quantum of pressure from everywhere because of leadership gap in the country.”
The Sokoto state number one citizen informed the visiting students that his position on the matter will be made public “in days ahead”.
Bashir Gorau, leader of the groups, in his response pledged their support to the governor.
He said, “We are tired of waiting, we want you to declare your position now.”
The Sokoto state governor defected from the All Progressives Party (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on August 1, the party he left in 2014 for the ruling party shortly before the 2015 general election.
