IGP orders massive deployment to secure FCT, as gunmen attack AIG Madaki in Kaduna, kill 7 in Imo

By our reporter| The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba on Wednesday ordered massive deployment of additional police operatives and operational assets within the FCT metropolis and its environs in a bid to reassure the public over recent perceived threat from terrorists.

The IGP’s directive came the day gunmen attacked the convoy of Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Audu Madaki, in the Barde area of Kaduna, killing his orderly, while seven police officers were reportedly killed by gunmen in Imo state.

In a statement, the force said the move is to solidify the security and protection of lives and property of its residents, critical national assets, and vulnerable facilities as well as road users plying routes in and around the FCT.

According to the statement, the IGP made the charge during the Force Management Team’s meeting at his office on Monday, August 1st, 2020, to review general security updates on the nation.

He equally charged the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, DIG Bala Zama Senchi, to supervise and manage the deployment to ensure maximum security in the FCT as well as surrounding states with a high risk of attacks resonating from the threats being speculated on the news, as the Force does not and will never handle any information with kid gloves.

In the same vein, the Inspector-General of Police has assured Nigerians in general, and residents of the FCT in particular, of their safety and security, while urging them to go about their lawful duties without fear of attacks.

He equally reiterated the firm determination of the Police leadership to continue to explore avenues to enhance the security architecture in the country, through intelligence gathering, operational deployments, and application of cutting-edge technology to decimate the activities of criminal elements across the country.

Gunmen attack AIG Madaki in Kaduna, kill orderly

Meanwhile, gunmen on Wednesday attacked the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Audu Madaki, in the Barde area of Kaduna, killing his orderly.

The AIG and a yet-to-be-identified officer survived the attack but sustained gunshot wounds along Barde-Jargindi village.

They were on their way to the monthly conference of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, and senior police officers from the rank of commissioners of police.

Top on the agenda is the security situation in the country which the IGP says is crucial to creating a pathway towards resolving these security issues in the country.

Gunmen kill seven security guards in Imo

Also in Imo state, gunmen reportedly killed seven security guards at their duty post within Umuafom autonomous community in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

According to residents, the gunmen came in two vehicles and a bike on Monday night and killed the local guards at their duty post at different locations within the area.

A commercial motorcyclist who is presently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre Owerri due to gunshot sustained was said to have ran into the bandits during the operation and while trying to escape he was shot in the leg.

Another victim who is also receiving treatment at the Federal medical center also sustained a machete cut while trying to escape.

The Imo State Police Public relations officer, Michael Abattam who confirmed the attack, said the incident is under investigation as to unravel the attackers.

Abattam also pleaded with the community to remain calm and not panic as the police will provide adequate security in the area.
