By our reporter | All police officers attached to Ibrahim Magu, the suspended former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were withdrawn on Friday on the order of the Mohammed Adamu, the inspector general of police.
According to a police source, the officers guarding the official and personal houses of Magu have been withdrawn and all vehicles in the official house in Maitama were also driven away.
Magu was arrested on Monday and has since been facing a presidential investigative panel headed by reitired Appeal Court president, Ayo Salami over alleged corruption and insubordination.
A source in the family who confirmed the withdrawal of the police officers from Magu’s two houses, expressed worry over safety of his life and that of his family.
He said, “We are seriously concerned about the personal security of his immediate family. They have literally being thrown to the hyenas, knowing fully well the dangers.”
According to the him, the family is worried in view of the “enemies” the former EFCC boss may have garnered on account of his work, his life and that of his family members are in danger without adequate security cover.
The withdrawal of Magu’s security personnel comes hours after he asked the IGP for bail through one of his lawyers.
