International Women’s Day: Bassey Albert Akpan salutes Women

… Promises to do more for their social and economic progress
Chidi Tony| Senator Bassey Albert Akpan(OBA) the leading governorship aspirant has saluted Akwa Ibom women and their counterparts across Nigeria, in general, for their resilience in the face of social odds.
In a message of goodwill to mark the International Women’s Day, the top-notch gubernatorial aspirant in Akwa Ibom State said for a faster societal growth, women cannot be ignored.
“The invaluable contributions of our women must be duly acknowledged, documented and appreciated. We cannot make speedy progress as a nation, unless aspects of the women’s role in national building are consciously incorporated into our national psyche”, he said.
Akpan, who chairs the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream) added, “Some of our women are as intellectually strong,  socially resilient and economically relevant as some men. Therefore, for a better tomorrow, the women
must be involved socially and economically”.
The senator explained that his belief in the potential of women, over the years, informed his various programmes targeted at improving their skills towards greater national advantage.
“In the past few years, we have done our best to empower our women through human capital development programmes like skills acquisition as well as start-ups for small scale businesses. I intend to do more as we move our partnership a step further. To this end, I urge all our women delegates to take their destinies in their hands by voting for me in the upcoming party primary”.
He promised to continue to empower the women as well as promote their social and economic standing in the society, in the years ahead.
The governorship hopeful in 2023 further called for more sensitisation towards effective education and proper training of women in vocational and ICT skills.
This year’s International Women’s Day celebration, marked every March 8, centres on “gender equality for sustainable tomorrow”
