Investigative panel visits scene of the killing of police officers by soldiers

A panel set up by the police to investigate the killing of three officers and a civilian on Friday visited the scene of the incident.

The officers were killed on Wednesday along the Ibi – Wukari road, Taraba state by soldiers who later claimed they mistook them for kidnappers.

The officers had gone to arrest one Alhaji Hamisu, a notorious kidnap suspect who was indicted in a series of high-profile kidnap incidents.

The unfortunate killing of the officers has lead to a war of words between the police and army authorities.

The Army claimed that the incident was a mistake as troops of the 93 Battalion Takum, mistook them for kidnappers but the police in a state statement on Thursday by Force PPRO Frank Mba accused the army of lying, insisting the soldiers deliberately killed the police officers and freed the kidnap suspect.

President Buhari has already ordered a probe to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing of the officers.
