Ebun Francis| Nigeria’s index coronavirus case, an Italian, has tested negative for the virus.
The man, who flew into Nigeria from Milan, Italy, on February 24, via Turkish airlines, and diagnosed with the virus a few days later, had been receiving treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
Lagos state commissioner for health, Akin Abayomi, who made the disclosure at a press briefing on Thursday, said the 44-year-old Italian tested negative for the virus.
According to him, another test would be conducted and the patient would be discharged, if he again tests negative.
Abayomi said, “The index case is now negative. The only reason he is still with us is because he needs two negative tests but he is ready and anxious to go.”
