Judge orders arrest of Nnamani, former Enugu State Governor

Ebun Francis || A federal high court in Lagos presided over by Justice Chuka Obiozor on Monday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a former governor of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani.

Justice Obiozor ordered the arrest of the former Executive Governor of Enugu state from 1999-2007 following his inability to be present in Monday’s proceedings.

Nnamani’s lawyer had earlier told the Judge that he had undergone heart surgery in the US but the prosecution countered the argument that the pictures tendered by Nnamani’s were taken in 2014.

While issuing the warrant, the Judge averred that the lawyer to Nnamani was unable to provide any reasonable reason why Nnamani was absent from court.

The former governor was to be re-arraigned before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged money laundering of N4.5 billion an offense said to have been committed during his tenure as Governor of Enugu State between 1999 and 2007.

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State had earlier on December 30 adjourned the money laundering trial of the former Enugu State Governor to today, Monday, December 4.

This move to re-arraign the former Governor is coming 10 years after he was first arraigned alongside his aide, Sunday Anyaogu, and six firms.
