The Kogi state house of assembly on Wednesday commenced impeachment proceedings against the state deputy governor, Simon Achuba.
The majority leader of the house, Abdullahi Bello, who read a petition against Achuba at plenary, disclosed that 21 out of the 23 members of the assembly have signed the impeachment notice.
Citing section 188 of the 1999 constitution, he asked the house to commence investigation ahead of the impeachment of the deputy governor.
Following Bello’s prayer, the speaker of the house, Kolawole Matthew, directed that impeachment notice be served on the deputy governor and gave him 14 days to respond to the allegations against him.
The deputy governor recently alleged that governor Bello was after his life and that he was being owed N819 million in salaries and allowances.
