Chidi Samuel| The downward trend of new coronavirus infections in Lagos, the country’s pandemic epicentre continued for the sixth day running on Tuesday as Nigeria recorded 304 more cases of the highly contagious virus, bringing its total infections to 44,433.
According to the data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its verified Twitter handle, new cases were reported in 18 states of the federation, and the FCT.
The FCT topped the list with 90 new infections, followed by Lagos – 59, Ondo –39, Taraba –18, Rivers –17, Borno –15, Adamawa –12, Oyo –11 and Delta –9.
On states with new infections include Edo –6, Bauchi, Kwara, Ogun and Osun recorded 4 cases each, Bayelsa, Plateau and Niger each 3 cases each, Nasarawa –2, and Kano –1.
The NCDC further stated that so far, a total of 31,851 people have recovered from the dreaded disease, with 910 fatalities.
Meanwhile, the novel coronavirus has killed at least 694,507 people since the outbreak emerged in China last December, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP at 1100 GMT on Tuesday.
At least 18,324,580 cases have been registered in 196 countries and territories. Of these, at least 10,707,500 are now considered recovered.
The tallies, using data collected by AFP from national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO), probably reflect only a fraction of the actual number of infections.
On Monday alone, 4,309 new deaths and 207,124 new cases were recorded worldwide.
Based on the latest reports, the countries with the newest deaths were India with 803 new deaths, followed by Brazil with 561 and the United States with 532.
