Many feared dead as Police, IPOB clash in Enugu

By our reporter| Many persons were feared killed on Sunday when some members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) clashed with the police in Enugu state.

According to eye witness account, trouble statrted when some Policemen invaded a building where IPOB members were holding a meeting at Emene in Enugu and the separatist movement resisted the attempt to disperse them, prompting the police to apply force.

This resulted in a violent clash between the IPOB members and the police officers who started firing gunshots.

A team of security operatives was said to have been immediately deployed to the scene after which they were able to arrest many of the IPOB members.

The number of casualties could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report but a witness said “many people” were feared killed with their bodies reportedly taken away by the security operatives.

Enugu state police command has not yet commented on the development.
