Mbaka bows to pressure, suspends Adoration Ministry’s activities for one month

By our reporter| The spiritual director of Adoration Ministries Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Ejike Mbaka on Tuesday announced the suspension of the ministry’s activities for one month.

In a notice issued by the ministry, the controversial Catholic priest said he is proceeding on a private prayer retreat and won’t be available until June 10.

“Our Spiritual Director, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka wishes to inform his beloved adorers that he has embarked on a private prayer retreat that will end on 10th June 2021, the notice read.

“Consequently, no ministry activities shall be held in the ministry ground pending his return.

“He directs that members of the ministry are to observe this period of his retreat as they used to do during the usual January breaks of the ministry, by praying at their homes, being charitable, and fasting according to their ability.”

The announcement comes days after Mbaka apologised to the Catholic church for his mistakes, including appearing to have backed protesters who attacked the diocesan cathedral over his whereabouts last week.

Callistus Onaga, the Catholic bishop in Enugu, had declared one week of prayer over the violent protest following the brief disappearance of Mbaka after a clash with the presidency.
