Chidi Samuel| Nigeria on Wednesday confirmed 389 new coronavirus cases bringing the country’s total number of infections to 8733.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in Tweet on its verified twitter handle said 256 of the new infections were recorded in Lagos, the epicentre of the outbreak in Nigeria.
Other states where new infections were recorded include, Katsina 23, Edo 22, Rivers 14, Kano 13, Adamawa 11, Akwa Ibom 11, Kaduna 7, Kwara 6, Nasarawa 6, Gombe, Plateua, Abia Delta, Benue, Niger, Kogi and Oyo recorded 2 cases each while Imo, Bornu, Ogun and Anambra recorded 1 case each.
Kogi State also recorded its first COVID-19 infections, leaving Cross River as the only State yet to record any coronavirus case in the country.
According to the health agency, 8733 Cases of the novelcoronavirus has so far been recorded in Nigeria, with 2501 discharges and 254 deaths.

-Nigeria Identifies three local COVID-19 cure claims for further investigation
Meanwhile, Nigeria has moved an inch closer to finding a local remedy for the highly contagious virus as the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Wednesday said it has identified and recomended three out of the numerous claims of COVID-19 herbal cure to relevant authorities for further investigation and validation.
The Chairman of the PTF, Boss Mustapha who made the disclosure on at the Task Force briefing in Abuja,
said the validation was made by the Federal Ministry of Health after holding a virtual meeting with Nigerian Researchers and Scientists.
According to him, the decision to meet with the researchers was also prompted by the incidents of mysterious deaths in Kano and some other cities.
He said, “The occurrences in Kano and some other cities have given cause to launch our research initiatives using existing structures and systems in a manner that will build a legacy and prepare Nigeria for any future pandemic.
“As a measure of the importance attached to research and development of local capacity for finding a cure for COVID-19, the Federal Ministry of health held a virtual meeting with a number of researchers and scientists with claims to cure COVID-19.
“Out of the numerous claims, three were found to deserve further investigation and we have forwarded them to the relevant authorities for appropriate review,” the SGF said.
Mustapha further stated that efforts are also being made to meet inventors of locally fabricated COVID-19 equipment.
“Similarly, efforts are being made by the Ministry of Science and Technology to subject a good number of locally fabricated COVID-19 equipment for verification and subsequent certification”.
The PTF Chairman who urged researchers to come forward with their innovations, stressing that the subject of research is central to the PTF and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is willing to support such research efforts.
