NCDC confirms 91 new COVID-19 cases, suspected killer of Funke Olakurin infected with virus

Chidi Samuel| Nigeria on Sunday night confirmed 91 new COVID-19 cases in the country bringing the total toll to 1273.

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control made the disclosure via a Tweet on its verified twitter handle @NCDCgov.

According to the health agency, the new infections were recorded in Lagos, Sokoto, Taraba, Kaduna, Gombe, Ondo, FCT, Edo, Oyo, Rivers, Bauchi, Osun, Akawa Ibom , Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Kebbi.

According to AFP tally, the novel coronavirus has claimed at least 200,736 lives since its outbreak in Wuhan province, China in December, 2019.

More than 2.8 million cases were registered in 193 countries and territories of the world and at least 772,900 are now considered recovered.

…Suspected killer of Funke Olakurin test positive for COVID-19

Earlier on Sunday, one of the suspected killers of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of the National Leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti tested positive to coronavirus.

The suspect is one three new positive cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), announced governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Sunday in a series of tweets.

The three new cases brings to seven the total number of infections in the state.

The coronavirus positive suspect was among the four men arraigned at a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure over the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin.

According to the governor, the Commissioner of Police in the state had been duly informed about the status of the infected suspect, although he did not disclose his identity.

The suspect, the governor said, has been isolated from others in detention and would be moved to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) for treatment.

He equally stated that contact tracing have begun of police officers and others in the facility where the suspect was detained.

According to him, the police commissioner gave an assurance that the State Command will ensure adequate security of the IDH premises to prevent the suspect from escaping.
