Nigeria judiciary passing through trying times- Acting CJN

The acting chief justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, on Saturday said the that country’s judiciary is experiencing trying times but urged Judges in the country to stand and protect the integrity of the judiciary.

The acting CJN who assumed office on Friday following the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari, said this while swearing in members of the election tribunal.

Muhammad rallied judges across the country to stand, protect and uphold the integrity of the judiciary.

He said,“The judiciary is in trying times, you must stand to protect and uphold the integrity of this arm of government.”

“I encourage you to uphold and enhance the honour and standing of the judiciary and I pray that the Almighty God will bestow upon you strength, good health and wisdom in the performance of your duties… I congratulate you on this appointment and I urge you to see this assignment as a call to greater service to your nation.”

The acting CJN’s first official function was attended by one of 15 justices of the supreme court.
