Nigeria seizes British aircraft operating illegal commercial flights into the country

Yusuf Bello| The federal government has seized an aircraft belonging to Flair Aviation, an aviation company with ties to Germany and the United Kingdom, for operating illegal commercial flights into Nigeria.

Hadi Sirika, the minister of aviation, who made the disclosure in a Tweet, said the company was given clearance to operate humanitarian operations and that the crew are being interrogated.

Sirika tweeted on Sunday, “Flair Aviation, a UK company, was given approval for humanitarian operations but regrettably we caught them conducting commercial flights. This is callous!.”

“The craft is impounded, the crew being interrogated. There shall be maximum penalty. Wrong time to try our resolve!”

Nigeria in an effort to contain the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus, barred international flights into the country on March 23, 2020.
