Nigeria’s COVID-19 burden exceed 25,000 with 561 new cases

Chidi Samuel| Nigeria on Tuesday confirmed 561 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing its total infections to 25, 694.

In a Tweet via its verified twitter handle, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said the new cases were recorded across 18 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to a breakdown of the cases by the health agency, five states with the highest number of infections were Lagos 200, Edo 119, Kaduna 52, Niger 32 and Ogun 19.

Others included Ondo 16, Imo 14, Plateau 11, Abia and Oyo states recorded 8 cases each, Bayelsa 7 and Katsina 6.

New cases were also recorded in Kano 5, Bauchi, Osun and Kebbi recorded 3 cases each, Borno 2 and Jigawa 1.

The NCDC further revealed that 344 patients were successfully treated and discharged from the isolation centres in various parts of the country, bringing to
9,746 the number of people who have been discharged so far.

The country, the NCDC noted lost 17 more patients to the dreaded virus, with the death toll now 590.
