International flights may resume earlier than October- Aviation minister

By our reporter| Nigeria’s minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Tuesday said the federal government has not announced any date for resumption of international flights but said it could be earlier than October.

Sirika was reacting to reports that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had selected October 15 as the resumption date for international flights.

In a tweet on Tuesday, the minister said the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) only issued a routine 90-day notice to airmen (NOTAM).

His tweet read, “International flight resumption date is not October. NAMA just issued a routine 90-day notice to airmen (NOTAM).”

“In liaison with health, foreign affairs & PTF COVID-19, we will announce the agreed date, regardless of the ban by Europe, UAE etc. May be earlier than October.”

Nigeria’s airports were closed on March 23, 2020, as part of the measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The country, has, however, resumed domestic flight operations for Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, Owerri and Maiduguri airports.
