One confirmed dead in Abuja building collapse

At least one person has been confirmed dead after a three-storey building collapsed in Kubwa Satellite town, Abuja.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday near Aso Savings Bank.

Five workers were rescued while two are still trapped in the rubble.

One of the victims had said the collapsed building injured two workers who are in hospital receiving treatment leaving three under the rubble.

Emmanuel Omeke, a resident who lives beside the building, claimed the collapsed structure was initially a shopping mall but recently converted into residential apartments.

According to him, the addition of extra blocks to the structure may have led to the collapse.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, adding that some persons have been rescued with serious injuries and taken to the General Hospital.

As of the time of this reporting, security agencies and National Emergency Management Agency officials were on ground trying to rescue those trapped in the rubble.
