P&ID Saga: Court grants Grace Taiga bail

The Federal Capital Territory High court on Wednesday granted bail to a former Director of Legal Affairs at the Nigerian Petroleum Ministry, Mrs Grace Taiga.

Mrs Taiga was arraigned last week over her alleged involvement in the controversial Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) contract with Nigeria by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, (EFCC).

At the resumed hearing of the on Wednesday, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi said the prosecution failed to give reasons why the defendant should not be granted bail.

He subsequently granted her bail in the sum of N10Million and two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, the judge ruled, must be public servants not below directorate cadre and resident in Abuja.

The sureties are also to deposit their affidavit of means before the court.

Justice Adeniyi, however, ruled that there would be no need to compel the accused to submit her International Passport given her health situation but she must inform the court and her sureties if the need arises for her to leave the country.

Mrs Taiga was arraigned by the EFCCC last for her role in facilitating the controversial contract and securing gratification to the tune of over $20, 000 while she served at the ministry in 2010.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges.
