Police arrest more suspects in Ataga’s murder

The Lagos police command on Wednesday said it has arrested more suspects in connection with the murder of Usifo Ataga, the late Super TV CEO.

The state police commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, who made the disclosure while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Ikeja, said a case of conspiracy have been established in Ataga’s murder.

“We have established a case of conspiracy in the murder and we have arrested more suspects,” Odumosu said.

Odumosu, however, declined to give details on the circumstances under which the suspects were arrested.

The development comes two days after the prime suspect in the murder, Chidinma Ojukwu, a third-year mass communication student of the University of Lagos recanted over her role in the killing of the late Super TV CEO.

The 21-year-old had on June 24 confessed to stabbing Ataga “twice on the neck side”. She had alleged that the businessman forcefully had sex with her the first time but a dispute ensued after he attempted it again.

“I threw the knife to the bed and he was going for it but I also went for it. He dragged the knife with me and it broke and he fell on the floor,” she said then.

But in an interview with Crime Busters on Monday, Chidinma while recanting her earlier story, said she admitted to killing Ataga at the time because of pressure and the fact that nobody believed her.

“I don’t know what happened when I left the room to buy food. Because of what I did after by not alerting the police and also withdrawing money from his account, I feel guilty for what happened but I did not kill him,” she said.
