Police take over Abia house of Assembly over speaker’s impeachment

Our reporter, The speaker of Abia State house of Assembly, Chinedu Orji has been reportedly impeached by a group of lawmakers.

A member of the house who spoke on the condition not to be named told Alabingo.com that Orji was impeached by majority of the lawmakers at an undisclosed location in the state capital on Monday.

The motion for his impeachment, according to the source,  was reportedly moved by Hon Kennedy Njoku, member representing Osisioma North Constituency, and was seconded by Hon. Okey Igwe ( PDP, Umunneochi).

The group elected Hon Chukwudi Apugo representing Umuahia east constutency as the new speaker.

The new speaker and his group are yet to have access to the mace, the symbol of authority for the house.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force have taken control of the house of assembly building to avert breakdown of law and order.
